TMJ and Facial Pain Therapy
Dentist Frederick, MD
At Premiere Dental Arts of Frederick, we offer relief for patients experiencing TMJ, temporomandibular joint disorders, which are issues you experience with your jaw, as well as the joint and facial muscles surrounding your jaw.
If you encounter any symptoms of TMJ, be sure to make an appointment with our dentist. These symptoms may include tension and tenderness in your face or jaw, difficulty with opening your mouth wide, locking or clicking or your jaw, difficulty in chewing, a tired feeling in your face, and swelling on the side of your face. Other common symptoms of TMJ include toothaches, headaches, dizziness, earache, ringing in the ears or hearing problems.
We will look into patient history to determine the cause of your symptoms and will examine your jaw thoroughly. We will check for locking of the jaw while opening and closing your mouth. Additionally, your bite and facial muscle function will be examined, and we will evaluate your jaw pain and tenderness. In some cases, x-rays will be taken to check your jaw, jaw joint and teeth for irregularities.
At Premiere Dental Arts of Frederick, we use Botox as an alternative treatment for jaw pain. Botox injections are sometimes an effective and painless way to alleviate tension in the temporomandibular joint, reducing jaw pain, headaches and suffering. Although some TMJ symptoms may improve without any specific treatment, Botox can offer fast and long-lasting relief for those that do not. It expediently alleviates temporomandibular tension by relaxing the jaw muscles, thus preventing unconscious jaw movement and ending grinding-related headaches.
Benefits of Botox include:
- Elimination of headaches caused by nighttime grinding
- Reduced discomfort when using the jaw
- Substantially reduced jaw tension
If you are feeling soreness or tenderness in your jaw, you should schedule an appointment in order to receive a proper diagnosis and to explore your treatment options. We can help you maintain a beautiful, healthy mouth that is free of discomfort. We strive to deliver treatment as greatly as possible and care for patients of all ages.
